Hi, I have recently setup a cable network in the house. I've reached a point where I'm going crazy as hell, maybe someone can help? I have these 3 Scenarios, I've tried more than 10 diff cables from cat 5 to cat 6, I've also tried a bunch of drivers in the desktop, reset the windows nothing worked. I've also tried to disable EEE, forced 1GB duplex on the NIC, nothing works. I have a case where it actually shows the negotiation link at 1GBps but its capped at 100Mbps. You might already verify if your router or bridge is using an energy-saving setting, such as 100Mbit/s.
Did you remove the wall cabling? You only require four wires for 100 Mbps, meaning a damaged wire or wires could reduce the speed to 100 Mbps.
Absolutely, that makes perfect sense. I’m still puzzled about how the notebook could support 1Gb if it was that straightforward. I’ve inspected the wall connectors and everything looks good. The cable was brand new, and it was easy to push through, so I don’t think any damage occurred during handling. Plus, since it’s an S/FTP model, it’s built to be robust.
Hi, I understand what happened. For the Cat7 I was using 568B, but it seems the wall socket had a different connection. I ended up wiring it through WhiteOrange -> Orange -> WhiteBlue -> Blue -> Brown -> WhiteBrown -> WhiteGreen -> Green, which matches 568B. It’s now working perfectly. Probably something unique to the socket I wasn’t aware of. Cheers!
