Issue encountered while copying an HDD to SSD using Clonezilla.
I’m facing a tough situation trying to transfer my HDD to a new Kingston SSD. The package didn’t include any free cloning tools—it was just the SSD itself. I can’t afford expensive software like Acronis, so I went with Clonezilla because it’s free and straightforward. However, I’ve never cloned a hard drive to an SSD before, and I’m not familiar with Clonezilla. I’ve spent hours searching online but haven’t found clear instructions or guides for this specific setup.
I don’t have a fresh Windows installation to buy, and I can’t afford another copy since I’m a student on a tight budget. I read the Clonezilla documentation about creating a bootable USB and modifying BIOS settings, but I ran into trouble. It seems my partition might be too large for the new SSD. I thought using GParted could help shrink it, but I’m unsure if it’s even necessary or how to use it properly.
My goal is to keep my OS and some programs on the SSD while keeping the 500GB drive for games and other files. If anyone has any advice or resources, it would be a huge relief.
Acronis offers a complimentary trial. A video featuring cloning by @JayzTwoCents is available.
Determine which trial you need: Acronis True Image 2015 or Acronis Migrate Easy.
It seems Acronis likely updated its product around 2013, as the 2015 trial version lacks cloning capabilities.
