I own several old computers, roughly three of them. Two are laptops and one is a desktop. All run Windows 10. The first is an Acer 1410 around ten years old, just set up with Windows. The second is an HP Pavilion 7G, also about ten years, likely similar. Let's get straight to the matter. What I'm saying is when I attempted to install Steam OS 3 (Holoiso) on all of them... the laptops refused to boot and immediately switched to Windows, while the desktop worked fine. After restarting the computer and entering the command prompt, I tried to upload the necessary files, but nothing appeared. I waited an entire night (13 hours) without any progress. What should I do? And could you assist with laptops too? If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it because I need a good entertainment system for the living room. Thank you!
The 7th generation began, yet both platforms are no longer under support. It makes sense they aren’t functioning properly. They claim compatibility with any PC, but in reality, only those with hardware that meets their requirements work. Your system isn’t supported at all.
The system in question is described. The conditions are listed above.
I didn't like SteamOS much. A Linux distribution that boots in a big screen is better, and Arch seems more suitable for running Steam games than Debian. Garuda Xfce works well because it's lightweight for UNIX systems and includes everything you need for smooth gaming right out of the box. If you want to see how well games run on Arch, check my YouTube channel—I mostly play Linux games there.
