Issue detected - icon and drivers missing.
I’ll walk you through each step in detail, from the very beginning to the final action.
It took some time to resolve the Surface Serial Hub Driver and battery icon problems. Here’s what worked: Checked Device Manager, selected System Devices, removed the two problematic drivers—one was an Intel Power-Engine driver and the other was Intel Serial IO UART Host Controller - 9D27. After clearing them, the system automatically reinstalled the correct battery drivers and other necessary ones. Good luck!
Craigo, I'm facing the exact same issue and have been a long-time CCLEANER user. I thought it might be linked to a CCLEANER session, but wasn't sure. Like you, I'm pretty tech-savvy and looked up possible fixes online. No luck. I'm considering trying Joris' solution, though my controller is different from the 9D27 one I have. I'll keep experimenting and stay in touch. If I find a way, let me know and I'd appreciate it. Thanks and good luck!
@ Joris M. you are my hero. I faced the same issue, but my starting point was with the "DriverMax" program—something that updates drivers... Thanks a lot! I've been dealing with this problem for about two weeks, around 20 hours. I had to remove these components: the Intel Serial IO UART Host Controller (9D27), the Intel Management Engine Interface #1, and the Interl-Renergiemodul-Plug-In (possibly in English: Intel power module plug-in). After restarting the Surface and checking the hardware, I suggest creating a recovery point!
It also helped me. I sent my warranty device to Microsoft when the battery failed to charge and showed up as damaged. They told me it was user-related. Removing those drivers fixed the problem, so I had to adjust battery limits in the UEFI BIOS to get charging above 50%. Really appreciated—it saved me from purchasing a replacement.
This didn't work for me, but it sparked the idea of reverting all my intel drivers to the Snappy driver. I only updated them again via the device manager. When I encountered code 45 on the surface serial hub driver, I reinstalled it and now my battery icon appears on the taskbar, everything seems normal. I'm not sure what exactly resolved the issue after trying various fixes. I'm just relieved it worked. :' )
You are a deity! I’ve been struggling with my surface laptop’s battery for months. I gave up trying to reinstall or open it because I didn’t want to risk a fresh setup. Following your advice, I made small changes for my model. I removed three components: the Intel Serial IO UART Host Controller (model 3D27), the Intel power module plug-in, and the problematic Serial USB hub. After doing that, the battery drivers came back online, reinstalled everything, and my icon restored. Thank you for helping me escape this frustration—I’ve made an account just to express my gratitude.
OMFG! Thanks to Joris and the team. I've dealt with this problem for over a year now. The battery worked fine until it stopped being recognized, so I couldn't see the remaining charge or get low-battery alerts. It's mostly used at home, so it hasn't been too bothersome. I'm amazed how quickly we found a fix and how simple it was. Thanks all!
