Another detail: After turning off the VBS I was seeing around 9700 in 3dMark. But after a system restart it returned to about 9300 again. VBS remains off. This doesn’t make sense to me lol. Am I missing something? Here’s the latest: Another reset seemed to resolve the issue and it’s now back in the 9700s. I’m concerned the CPU might not be the problem since the FPS drop happened in Halo Infinite, a GPU-intensive game. When I play Halo Infinite my CPU usage stays low (30-40%) while the GPU is maxed out at 90%. The GPU seems to be limited constantly, but the CPU isn’t really struggling. Could there be a problem with the GPU setup? What do you think? With this, I’ve noticed a slight improvement in Halo Infinite—maybe 5-10 more frames now. But it’s still not the same as before. I used to get 100-110 FPS on medium settings, now it’s 90-100 on low.

Anything can happen. Display a ThrottleStop log while you play for over 15 minutes. Activate Nvidia GPU monitoring in the Options menu so performance data appears in the log. There seems to be a voltage regulator issue. This situation usually occurs during VR throttling, where Intel Turbo Boost is turned off to save power, which reduces performance. This could explain the slow speed you noticed in your first screenshot. If the regulators are faulty or improperly designed, consider requesting a refund before it worsens. Irregular throttling can lead to unstable performance, and excessive background processes may also hinder speed. When the desktop is idle, check the C0% reported by ThrottleStop—it accurately reflects background activity. Higher idle percentages mean fewer CPU resources for your games. Properly configured Windows won’t require much processing power; the real slowdown often comes from unnecessary software and bloat.

@Joshua K. When the Nvidia GPU is running, CPU speed seems reduced roughly in half. I’m puzzled about this change. Previously, makers imposed strict limits on CPU power so more energy reached the GPU. This pattern appears similar but Asus seems to be applying a different approach to control CPU speed and power use. Here’s an example from the log file. DATE TIME MULTI C0% CKMOD BAT_mW TEMP NVIDIA GPU VID POWER 2023-03-26 12:05:40 20.16 41.1 100.0 0 74 1485 77 0.8341 19.3 2023-03-26 12:05:41 20.70 40.2 100.0 0 76 1485 77 0.8331 19.8 2023-03-26 12:05:42 20.26 41.9 100.0 0 74 1455 77 0.8600 19.5 2023-03-26 12:05:43 20.70 29.1 100.0 0 72 1455 77 0.8453 16.9 2023-03-26 12:05:44 24.28 21.3 100.0 0 78 1860 73 0.9993 17.7 2023-03-26 12:05:45 37.10 45.8 100.0 0 95 1860 73 1.2045 51.5 TEMP 2023-03-26 12:05:46 40.76 45.8 100.0 0 97 1710 75 1.2091 63.0 TEMP 2023-03-26 12:05:47 32.03 30.4 100.0 0 78 1710 75 0.9601 33.4 2023-03-26 12:05:48 28.77 30.8 100.0 0 78 1350 75 1.0385 26.7 2023-03-26 12:05:49 29.93 38.4 100.0 0 80 1350 75 0.9927 31.9 2023-03-26 12:05:50 25.84 33.9 100.0 0 77 1455 76 0.9430 24.9 2023-03-26 12:05:51 24.34 37.9 100.0 0 74 1455 76 0.8761 24.4 At the beginning of this section, the CPU multiplier stays near 20–21 while it should exceed 40. For a brief moment it rises above 40, causing thermal throttling (TEMP), then power use and CPU speed quickly return. My thought is that Asus employs an embedded controller to manage the CPU during Nvidia GPU operation. I’m unsure how to fix this problem. If I had a laptop with this restriction, I’d return it. You’re being blocked from achieving the full Intel performance of your 12650H.**

I managed to secure this laptop at an incredible price, making it the most capable option I could locate. Throughout the setup, my battery performance has declined significantly—from 4.5 hours down to just 1.5. I’m unsure how to restore the original battery life, as it seems the GPU remains active even when the system is powered off. Previously, the 3070 processor didn’t appear in the task manager on battery mode, but now it stays visible.

You secured a solid offer since the CPU operates at half its Intel benchmark. Once you’ve concluded testing with ThrottleStop, remove it. To keep using it, disable Nvidia GPU monitoring in the Options window. When both ThrottleStop and Task Manager track the Nvidia GPU, it stops entering low-power mode while idle. Restart ThrottleStop after turning off Nvidia GPU monitoring. Excessive background processes are the primary reason for short battery life. Check the Task Manager to identify tasks that shouldn’t run continuously.

The Nvidia GPU remains active despite being disabled, and removing the throttle stop followed by a restart may help it enter the ultra-low power mode.

A potential cause for your laptop’s slower performance is that certain Windows or BIOS updates can alter power settings, leading to reduced efficiency.

The GPU operates at its maximum power rating of 105 watts and stays there most of the time. It can occasionally increase to higher levels. There may be options to enhance its frequency boosts given the available thermal capacity.

I figured it out. Appreciate the assistance! For anyone seeking solutions, I simply reverted GPU mode to "optimized." While testing, I set it to standard and overlooked the change.
