Issue arises when attempting to log into Windows following a motherboard replacement.
A Dell technician performed a motherboard replacement today. Following the installation, turning on the computer triggered a BIOS flash. After rebooting, the lock screen displayed. Ignoring it, the logon screen displays my name, my Microsoft account with my photo, and a warning about the PIN being unavailable due to security changes. There is a setting to set up a new PIN, but clicking that returns me to the lock screen.
This device is a Dell XPS-8960 Intel core i9 with 32 cores and 64 GB RAM, running Windows 11 Pro 23H2 with all updates applied.
The issue is that Windows blocks me from advancing to the login screen.
The provided link appears to be a Microsoft support page related to a software update or change. It suggests assistance with modifying settings or features within the application.
Your issue arises because Windows interprets a motherboard or CPU upgrade as a fresh PC, and with an OEM license you can't activate it on a different machine. Refer to the support link provided.
