I’m using Windows 7 Ultimate right now. For Christmas I imagined needing a 3 TB drive for my games. If that’s true, I’d probably replace my 2 TB SSD with a fresh one and reinstall Windows 7, download the latest updates, maybe install some extra apps, and create an ISO backup. Then I could store it somewhere and refresh later without having to go through the updates again.

The changes aren't that slow, but you can create a backup drive. If you hold off for a few months, updates will still happen.

I rely on EaseUS for free backups to create image copies of my laptop setup. My typical backup size is around 20GB. On my desktop, I use Seagate's DiscWizard (free only with a Seagate HDD). Both tools let you generate recovery DVDs or USB drives so you can boot from them if you ever need to recover your PC and can't access Windows anymore.
