You recently purchased an OEM Windows 8.1 product key from Kinguin and are looking for an official Microsoft ISO to create a bootable drive. You’re unsure if any legitimate Microsoft site offers this and are curious about alternative sources since the built-in tool isn’t available on your Mac.

The problem is that the .exe files you see are not compatible with macOS, and they often contain tools that can install Microsoft software. Since you can't use the official downloads, there isn’t a legitimate way to get an ISO file directly through Microsoft’s site. You may need to look for alternative, trusted sources or consider using a different method.

No problem at all! Just let me know how you'd like to proceed.

I could too. But it’s a bit of a problem. I don’t think I’d need a computer to get a genuine ISO for Windows FFS.

Similar to how Apple handles OSX updates... well, that's pretty typical.

Microsoft offers a tool for creating Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 media. Install it, enter your key, and it will fetch the corresponding ISO file. The download is limited to that specific version, meaning you can only get Win8 and then upgrade to 8.1 through the operating system itself, not by installing a fresh copy.
