Is YouTube's 1440p processing experiencing any issues recently?
I generally don’t face issues with YouTube finishing the conversion of my 1440p uploads to actual 1440p quality. However, recently the last three uploads stopped at 1080p. Two of them remained on the upload page until I received the "Processing Done" confirmation, but only a 1080p viewing option appeared for the uploaded files.
I also attempted to upload a very short 30-second segment from the most recent upload. Although it processed much faster, eventually no 1440p version was available. This makes me wonder if there’s an issue with their 1440p processing and whether others have encountered the same problem recently?
Could someone here try uploading a brief 1440p clip to check if it works? You don’t necessarily need a high-resolution display to do this—many video editing tools offer resizing options. Your 1440p videos processed well a few days ago, so I’m hoping for some clarity on this matter.
It requires some time for the choice to appear. In my experience, it sometimes took a few hours for a video to display the 1080p feature. Patience is key, as the option will eventually show up.
I understand it requires significantly more time than 1080p processing, but believe me, it's much worse than just a few days ago. Also, since even a short 30-second clip isn't getting processed smoothly at 1440p, I'm curious if the 1440p handling is experiencing temporary issues.
I'm not seeking generic or overused answers. I've already shared many 1440p videos, so I'm hoping someone else has observed an unusually slow 1440p YT processing recently. If anyone is willing to test brief clips and see if they're facing the same problem, that would be great.
Thanks for your reply, but it's not exactly what I need. It's similar to when developers recommend updating GPU drivers when you expect performance to drop—just like I shouldn't be surprised when things aren't working as expected.
It seems I might have missed the specifics of your message earlier, as I assumed you hadn't reviewed the details about my upload. From what I heard, I had mentioned I had already shared 1440p videos before this issue arose, and even attempted a short 30-second clip. These kinds of questions often come up on YouTube when descriptions aren’t fully read.
I apologize if my response came across as ungrateful or if I misread the situation. Thank you for bringing this to my attention—especially since I didn’t realize there was more discussion about it. I did perform some searches on Google and YouTube, but usually stick to the top results and haven’t found much relevant chat. It’s possible the issue is linked to recent infrastructure changes by Stadia or their maintenance efforts.
I’m keeping an eye on any new threads on Reddit or Google forums and will bookmark them for future reference. The help thread you shared is currently inaccessible, but I found a few older discussions that might be useful. One recent post from a user who resizes videos to 1440p is particularly relevant, as they’re asking if YouTube has developed a filter to detect such changes.

I am having the same issue for the last few days. I have uploaded 3 short videos that were shot and encoded at 2.7K. They would normally be HD processed using the VP9 codec by YouTube and the 1440p viewing option would be available. They were however HD processed only to 1080p using the AVC codec, and HD processing is 'finished.'
I then uploaded a longer video yesterday at 2.7K. It is still processing the HD version 24 hours later. I uploaded the same file using a different title this morning and it is finished HD processing, but like the first 3 short videos, it is only processed to 1080p using AVC codec.
I have tried to chat with the support team, but they seem not to understand the technical stuff. Their only proposed resolution is to reprocess the file which they say takes a few days. It likely won't change anything though, as I suspect there are server issues. The VP9 codec for the 1440p processing is resource-intensive. They may be saving resources due to some problems. The support people though refuse to talk with the technical team to find this out. Very frustrating.
Thanks, yes I also attempted to re-upload my file with a different title and got the same outcome. It seems similar to your experience, that support likely removed it because of server issues. I’m not sure if the so-called "support" team is aware of this or if they’re instructed not to mention it, particularly since they’re still trying to persuade gamers to use Stadia. Even the largest companies with extensive infrastructure face challenges sometimes.
I didn't take offense to your reply, don't worry. But yeah as what I said or the other guy is saying, there is no news out there at the moment. All you can do for the time being is just upload your file and let the servers do their thing when they get to it. Not much say in the matter unfortunately.
There's no comment from Google if that's what you mean by news, but as I said there's a fair bit of forum word of mouth indicating it's been happening to a lot of people the last few days. I suspect as I said that some of their VP9 processing servers went down, which makes sense since so many are at home gaming during COVID. Steam has seen record activity in games like CSGO since COVID.
