Is your powerful computer acting slow?
with simpler words and your original speaker perspective intact:
I have a PC that isn't working like it should. It gets enough frames per second for games, but the game looks wrong to me. On Rainbow 6 Siege I can get around 400 fps easily. Even when I set my frame limit to 350, the game stays smooth with my graphics card running at about 85-95%. My CPU is also doing well at around 65% while the temps are low enough that they don't bother me.
However, sometimes for no reason the fps will drop by just one or two frames and I get a big spike in frame time which causes stuttering. I am using my BIOS settings with a program called "expo," but I haven't changed anything there yet because drivers are already up to date. I tried changing many different graphics options, like turning on power plans and performance modes on the control panel, but Apex also just runs like trash if I try that too.
The problem happens sometimes when I switch between games or apps. For example, while playing Rainbow 6 Siege, my gpu hits about 99% performance and fps drops to around 250, making it look really bad. It seems to happen randomly, especially after I pause for a few minutes on YouTube and then come back in.
I am getting tired of trying to figure this out because the game looks blurry sometimes. Any help would be very appreciated as I just give up.
Check your power supply and its wattage, age, condition, and whether it's original or refurbished. Look at your disk drive (make, model, capacity, how full) and where games come from. Use Task Manager and Resource Monitor to check system performance. Start with just one of these tools but keep both open while playing games. Your goal is to see what changes when things get slow. You'll need to stay on top of this while gaming. There are other tools that might help, but start with the basics first.
It's the PSU that comes with the NR200P max 850W SFX PSU (80 PLUS Gold, ATX 3.0, modular I have a WD_Black sn770 250gb which I have windows installed onto which has 30gb free. I keep all my games on the drive mentioned in the original post which has 2.6tb free storage. I have tried running the game both fullscreen and borderless with windows game mode both enabled and disabled, doesn''t make any difference. This was a new build back in Sept by myself all brand new parts. How would you recommend I use each tool whilst gaming? Will I need to play in windowed mode? Or what? I'll give that a shot and see if I can spot anything whilst I await any update. Thanks!
So I think I figured it out. Even though my CPU only uses about 70% to 80%, and Resource Monitor shows much higher numbers, I don't know why this happens. When one of those two things hits 100%, the game feels stuttery. But I'm not sure if this can be fixed in the BIOS or anything else. It just seems like that's what is making it laggy right now.
