Sunday night my computer was in sleep mode when we had a power outage. The lights came on and went off a few times in a row before they remained off. Computer is connected to a surge protector. This morning when I turned on the computer, the PSU fan was making horrible noises - very loud. I'm sure it was the fan because it sounded like that's where it was coming from. When I pressed my finger up to the vent, I could tell that's where the noise was from.
The computer seemed to boot fine, but was not wanting to shut down properly. I ended up having to put it to sleep then turn off the surge protector. I don't usually shut it down so I don't know if it's always that slow or not. It's an older computer I inherited.
The PSU that's in there is a Bestec ATX0300D5WC. 300 watt max. I'm not sure how old it is. I would say 9-14 years old. I'm not sure if it came with the computer or was a replacement. The computer was purchased new in Dec. 2010. I remember there being an issue with the PSU between 2012-2015, and thought it was replaced.
If I need to replace it, what should I buy? I've never bought a PSU and know nothing about them. I'm also not a big fan of buying things like this from unreputable sellers such as on eBay or 3rd party sellers from Newegg.

If this is a prebuilt, what is the company and model number?
If not a prebuilt you may have to do some investigating. Most common standard is going to be ATX. You would further need to open the panel and see if there is a standard 24 pin connector on the mobo alongside probably a 4 pin connector for the CPU (considering the age). You will also need to check the storage drive or drives, CD and so forth to see if they are powered by molex or SATA type power connectors. At that age they could still be IDE or they might be SATA.

Thank you for your response. The product is indeed prebuilt by HP with model number HPE-410t. The part number listed on the power supply unit is 585008-001.

The system is a standard ATX power supply with 24-pin ATX and a 4-pin CPU connector. Are you looking for a link to a local webshop for PSUs?
