CPU: 13700kf
Liquid cooler: Kraken 240rgb
Motherboard: Rog strix Z790-H
RAM: G.Skill 2x16 6400Mhz CL36 DDR5
SSD: Sn850x 1TB
Case: NZXT H5 Flow RGB
GPU: 7900XTX Sapphire Nitro+ (420TDP, gaming usage 440W)
PSU: Tuf gaming 850G.
Hello everyone, I just completed my build and after purchasing the 850W PSU—perfect fit for my RTX 4070ti—I’ve decided to upgrade the GPU to the XTX 7900 24GB model, which consumes more power. I’m uncertain if my current PSU is sufficient?
Please assist me, as I have limited experience. I’m only playing at 4K resolution, without overclocking or any other complex tasks.
PS. I considered alternatives like the XTX 7900, XFX Merc 310 (too long Z support bar), and PowerColor Red Devil (risky due to coil whine). I ended up choosing the Nitro+ variant with higher TDP.
I’m in a tough spot—I’ve already bought the 850W unit, which is hard to part with, even if unused. If I wait, I’ll have to buy another PSU and hope someone decides to purchase from me instead of PC stores. I’d need to sell it at a 50% discount, as unboxing it would be disappointing. Is it safe to run the build with an 850W unit?

Welcome to the forums, new member!
If you have only one discrete GPU, that should be okay.

But the inquiry focused on power requirements; will an 850-watt unit suffice for this project, or should I opt for a 1000-watt one?

If you're asking me about what I'd purchase for the build, then yes, I'd choose something with higher wattage to provide extra margin and keep the PSU running longer before needing a replacement.

My circumstances are more challenging; I've already purchased an 850W unit, but selling it is difficult even if I haven't used it yet. Instead, I must buy a second PSU and wait for someone to buy from me directly, not just from PC shops. I need to sell it at a 50% discount because unboxing it feels disappointing. Will running a build with an 850W be sufficient and safe?

It's sufficient, even though you won't achieve the highest efficiency. A PSU works best when it operates near half its capacity. For instance, an 850W PSU will perform optimally if your system draws about 425W. Understand how to lower your CPU and GPU voltages.
