I am very enthusiastic about the Logitech trackballs and have had several friends try them out. One of them is my wife, who shared with me a few days ago that her MX Ergo would end up in the trash because it was acting strangely. Before discarding a fairly expensive gadget, I asked her to take a look. Based on my experience, I knew exactly what to check. Clearly, the sensors were so dirty that it was hard to see them. After a detailed cleaning, the trackball worked again, and my happy wife was thrilled. If you encounter similar problems, consider cleaning your trackball. You might need to gently remove it—avoid sharp tools and use a cotton swab instead.

For cleaning, employ a gentle soapy mixture with a q-tip; avoid isopropyl alcohol as it can damage plastics over time.
Excellent news, you've successfully restored the mouse to working condition!

The video was great. I also attempted to pull out the ball like with M575, but the d... part didn't release until I accidentally noticed that the bottom section could be taken off, allowing me to get the ball out.

Never managed to get the trackballs, I tried one for a while and they’re just slow, not precise, and they tend to build up errors like a laser mouse

I had experience with a government contract before, and our helpdesk team had to be very careful when informing customers about the need to clean the mouse balls.
Some clients reacted negatively...
The most effective approach was visiting in person and demonstrating how to open the mouse base, remove the ball, clean it, and clear the sensors.
Other clients found it amusing, while a few couldn’t understand why it was important.
With laser mice, that issue became irrelevant...

Laser mice aren't completely effective since dust can accumulate in the bottom window, preventing the mouse from detecting the pad movement.
