I’m preparing my new setup (the current one is over seven years old and it’s time for an upgrade).
The planned specifications are listed below—should this be a good investment or should I hold off until the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and next-gen graphics cards arrive in early 2025?
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite 280 RGB
Motherboard: Gigabyte X870 Gaming X
Memory: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RGB (2x16GB)
Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M.2 NVMe
Graphics: CHOOSE BETWEEN
- Nvidia RTX 4070 Super
- Or AMD RX 7900 GRE (no match found in stock)
Case: Antec C8 Wood
Power Supply: Gigabyte UD750GM (750W 80+Gold)
Construction cost expected to be just under £2,000
I’m considering waiting a few more days to see if I can secure a 7 9800X3D, but do I really need it?
I’m not a hardcore gamer; I mainly use simulators (FS25, MFS) and war games (BF, COD & Apex).
Feedback would be appreciated.

I decided to hold off a few more days for the 9800X3D, it wouldn't hurt and it's better than the 7800X3D with a similar price from what I've seen so why pay the same for something less good?
Regarding the GPU, it depends on your current setup but between the 4070S and 7900 GRE I'd recommend Nvidia. If you wait for the next big thing, you'll miss out on buying anything.

Need and want are often used interchangeably, depending on your own language preferences. Perhaps or perhaps not, in your situation. If you purchased something today and the things available later prove excellent, how would you react? Confused or "well, I just needed a new PC"? We really don't understand how bad your present computer is—this depends on you, and if it's really bad, then you must have bought it before dark.

Not too bad, right? Better than me, though. I own a C2Q still and a 6th gen i5 laptop.
