Is your GPU limiting the performance of your CPU?
Hey, I just began playing PC games again on my main machine. To check how my system handles newer titles, I opened Task Manager and EVGA Precision in the background. The CPU usage is only about 48% max, while the GPU is hovering near 98-100%. That’s odd since my CPU is older. Does this suggest the GPU is limiting performance? It doesn’t seem logical given how old my CPU is. Here’s what I have set up: an overclocked Xeon X3470 at 3.8 (adjusted to 3.6 for stability), Corsair Vengeance 2400 16GB, EVGA 1070 Ti, a 250GB SSD boot drive, a 3TB HDD, and a 850W Corsair PSU.
You're asking about your gameplay. What are you currently doing?
The CPU sends data to the GPU, which then shows it on your screen. The GPU doesn’t slow down the CPU. I’m considering switching to a newer Intel or AMD processor right away. Your current model is very old—about a first-gen i7 from 2010. It’s time to upgrade!
