Is your Glorious Model O mouse functioning properly?
Successfully spilled my drink on a lightweight mouse with many holes. It didn’t stop immediately. After unplugging and cleaning it thoroughly, it functioned properly initially. However, when I reconnected it or changed the USB port, only the RGB lights worked, and no tracking or clicking occurred. Is this just a temporary issue, or is it permanently dead?
It varies based on the cleaning method and quality. If it's completely inactive, little action is possible; if a single moisture droplet accidentally linked a few traces together, that often results in failure.
Thank you for your response. I wasn't sure about the best method to clean it. I attempted to remove most of the moisture using paper and a q-tip, as well as a gas duster to blow out any droplets. When you say "connected a couple traces," could you clarify what that means? Also, after plugging it back in, it worked briefly before failing again. It seems there might still be some moisture inside causing this issue. I think I'll leave it overnight and try again tomorrow morning.
In essence, it's a minor short circuit. Sadly, you had to clean it thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol. Water is actually a poor conductor of electricity; impurities like salts and minerals are present. That's why systems can run smoothly in aquariums filled with distilled water without issues. Even if everything was perfectly dried, a non-water beverage would likely leave many residues after simple drying. I must admit, now that it isn't working, I'm fairly doubtful the mouse can be saved, but it's still worth a try.
Mouse is not worth saving. It might be tried, but it’s already dead. The truth is, if you use it and then stop using it, it shorted out and it’s gone.
I’m curious why people keep drinks nearby their computers. Beverages and snacks should stay at the dining table, not close to the screen.
I understand, thank you. It turns out the mouse is functioning well despite the lack of isopropyl alcohol. We'll see how this impacts its durability later.
I tend to snack while working at my desk in the home office. I once damaged a $150 keyboard with gravy from Thanksgiving leftovers.
