Is Windows Vista that bad?
From my own view, 7 performed better on older hardware than Vista. When I tried Vista, it had some issues, but it quickly became overshadowed by negative opinions from those who thought it was poor quality. They didn’t use it themselves and then shared their views with others.
I used Vista for two years after its release, and honestly, "pretty bad" barely scratches the surface of how it performed at launch. What really bothered me was that Vista didn’t deliver the smooth experience I expected from an operating system. I always aim high with Microsoft products, but they fell short in this case.
It worked fine. I moved up to version 7 on the old laptop after receiving a good deal due to the purchase timing. It functioned adequately with the Intel Centrino Dual mobile CPU, but Windows 7 performed much better.
When Vista launched, not all systems had 1GB of RAM, so many users ran it with less. The 1GB was just the minimum, but as time passed and configurations shifted to 2GB or 4GB, plus software improvements, performance became more stable. I managed to run it smoothly right from the start, even after upgrading to 768MB of RAM. Later, I built my first custom PC with a solid 2GB RAM at 800Mhz.
IT claims it was necessary, yet your brother had a powerful laptop with ample memory, yet performance remained poor. The specifications mentioned don’t reflect the actual experience.
It was terrible when it launched. Now it looks almost the same as Win7, though it isn’t as smooth.
