is vr worth it?
It's really enjoyable having friends who also use VR, but playing solo can feel quite dull. With some of my friends, we can play pavlov for hours without getting bored. I’d recommend looking for deals though—I bought an Occulus Rift a few months ago on sale for $280 for the complete set. I don’t think I’d pay more than $350 for one, even though VR is still pretty niche right now. If you find something on sale, I’d definitely consider it—I could always return it if I don’t like it.
I don't believe it's worthwhile. The available games are limited, and there haven't been any AAA releases for that platform.
The number of games is limited, which means it really depends on your preferences. Personally, I don't think it's worth spending a lot unless you're not worried about money. "Job Simulator" and "Beatsabre" are great, but the cost to play two games is quite high. Other titles like Elite Dangerous can be enjoyed without VR, so VR adds only small improvements in some cases. Still, I think it's necessary to fix the screen door effect. I haven't checked if the VivePro or Valve Index solve this with their 1440p screens (Valve might also be considering LCD).
I purchased an Oculus Rift in December 2016. By February 2017, I stored it in almost new condition. It has remained safely inside its original packaging. Initially, VR was incredible. However, its excitement faded quickly. Notably, the cost of VR games and the effects of immersive experiences on your well-being became apparent. The longer you spend in VR, the less you feel healthy. That’s my experience. For me, VR feels like a modern-day illusion—amazing for a short time, then easily forgotten.
i hadn't intended to invest so much (i was considering the oculus rift that just came out)
I purchased the Oculus Rift S and it's currently being shipped to my home (it should arrive tomorrow). If you're interested, I can provide an update on its condition. I bought it because I've been feeling bored with everything else. I'm looking for a new experience, as I haven't tried VR before, and it would be something enjoyable to share with my boyfriend. Of course, this decision is entirely up to your personal preference. In my opinion, it's definitely worth it. However, if you're still unsure, I recommend checking out various reviews of different VR headsets and watching gameplay on the platform. If you're considering getting it, go for it.
