I'm making a full system upgrade but thought about using the existing PSU again. Considering its 10-year warranty, I expected it to still function well, though opinions differ quite a bit. Some people claim certain PSU components wear out quicker than others. Is this really a concern? I've had the PSU for five years and it's been handling an 8700k with a 1080, then moved up to a 2080s and finally a 3080FE, usually gaming for about 2 to 12 hours each week. It hasn't been used extremely hard over the years. Running around 400 watts under a more realistic load seems reasonable. It's connected to a good surge protector and is unplugged during storms or power outages.

It should comfortably support the upgrade: (13600k & 4080FE, 2x16 DDR5 6400mhz, 2x m.2 drives, 4x sata drives, 3x 140mm fans, 1x 120mm).

Calculators estimate a load of about 640 watts, and since power spikes aren't a major worry with the 40-series units, there should be plenty of margin.

I won’t be doing heavy tasks like furmark or Cinebench—just gaming at 1440p 120hz or 4k 60hz, plus music production, digital art, and light video editing. I probably won't exceed 500 watts total.

Not very excited about the upgrade since the new RMx 2021 models seem to have at least double the noise level or are often affected by coil whine. I'm quite sensitive to noise.

I would definitely choose a high-quality unit suitable for the load, while also ensuring it remains within warranty.

There isn't a solid justification for making changes at this time.

I own a 1000 Watt HXI from 2016, it's still working perfectly within the warranty. No problems at all. Keep it going!
