Is upgrading to 9900K beneficial?
I’m evaluating a system upgrade from an i5 9600K to an i9900K. My current setup includes an RTX 2080 and 32GB RAM, running at 4K resolution. I’m upgrading mainly because newer games push my CPU to its limits and I worry it will only get worse with a 3080. I want to avoid a full rebuild for another 3-4 years. In the UK, I can find an i9900K around £300 or an i7 9700K for £230. Since I plan to get a 3080 soon, I’m wondering if this upgrade still makes sense now compared to waiting.
They noticed the same issue with my i5-9600K, realized it was slowing things down, upgraded to a better processor, and now everything runs smoothly. It’s definitely a good investment.
Yea, that i5 won’t be great for you with a 3080. Even now it’s technically holding you back some. I just sold my 9900k, mobo, and rm650i to a buddy for 500 bucks. I’m sure you can find a deal on a used CPU which would make it worth while. If you can’t find a used one, I’d argue sell your mobo and CPU and get a 10700k.
