Hello, this might seem odd but I haven’t checked PSU temperatures or adjusted the fan curve in ten years. After purchasing an RTX 5090 with a 9800x3d card that draws over 1000W at full load, I’m curious if it’s necessary to monitor and fine-tune it. I’ve also ordered an HX1500i ATX PSU, could you tell me what the maximum temperatures are before it becomes unsafe? Thanks in advance.
I own an MSI Ventus RTX 5090. It reaches 70°C for the GPU and 76°C on the memory temperature (as shown by GPU-Z) while executing AI tasks in ComfyUI. All case fans are set to 80% speed to cool the case, including an additional upside-down fan positioned over the GPU heatsink to improve airflow. I'm using MSI afterburner at 70% power to lower the wall power draw, which is limited to 620 watts on my 850W PSU. FanControl v226 manages the fans with different profiles based on GPU temperatures. I can't force the GPU fans to run at a specific speed; they default to 30% most of the time, but I'd like them fixed at 50% to extend their lifespan. I'm content with temperatures between 70-80°C, but not exceeding them. Extended periods of 80-90°C on the memory could harm it and shorten its life, though I'm not an expert.
All my fans except the GPU work at full speed when the CPU reaches 70° C. They run between 50-60% during idle. I haven't changed the GPU fan settings since they seem adequate. Just run your system fans as high as you can handle the noise. Fans are inexpensive.
