Is this typical for the X299 7980XE under high temperatures or bad conditions?
So as some may already know, I posted here before about my 7989XE that I acquired recently. I started having some issues however, nothing major but it would be great if I could find out what it is as I'm slightly unsure what's going on. CPU works fine, temps are weird to me though, and no matter how much voltage I give it, the CPU is never stable at 4.7Ghz as I recently noticed. I posted images of Cinebench at 4.7Ghz so it's all correct there with 4000Mhz memory at 16C. Temps however are weird. So what I did, is I opened a window (Ultra cold in UK last night) turned all 18x Noctua PPC Industrial 3000 RPM fans in my PC to 100%, and put both Revo D5 pumps to 100%. GPUs were idling at 19 and 20c respectively. Under load they were exactly 35C in TimeSpy, so I know cooling is working well. (While OCed) So 4.7Ghz at 1.275V or 1.285V will allow me to run Cinebench few times and then when I give it a break and try it again, then the system locks up. By the way, I know this is not a stability test but it allows me to see initial stability with it. Just a couple quick runs. 4.6Ghz on the other hand is rock solid stable. I decided to see if 4.7Ghz will be stable in Blender Classroom benchmark and it locked the system up as soon as I started. 4.6Ghz finished it easy peasy with no lock ups or anything like that. Does my mesh need more voltage and other parameters if the clock speed is higher? 4.6Ghz works easily at 1.23V and would probably work with lower voltages but I haven't got there yet. Temps are well in high 70's or just about kissing 80s at this OC. Is this normal with this kind of cooling? The CPU is Delidded with copper IHS and it has Conductonaut in there. I'm running older BIOS which is 1.08, will BIOS update to 1.21 help? I doubt it but if rather ask. I know someone will notice that the delta between cores is somewhat big, but I read it's normal and I tried to relid multiple times, so if that's something I need to amend I shall. I may simply have not enough LM.
Reduce the initial quantity slightly and check the CPU online before purchasing.
I understood the product. It's currently ranked 17th in SLI TimeSpy. Not particularly useful.
I rely solely on my 7800X since I haven't tested the 7920X under such intense conditions yet. The 7800X performed around 4.9 with delid+LM+360 rad and felt better at 4.8. Using chilled water improved performance slightly to 5.0. With three times the core count, heat management remains a concern during high load. If this is for a bench session, it's acceptable, but continuous 24/7 operation at lower settings would be ideal. For those seeking a challenge, attempting the hwbot y-cruncher 10b record might be rewarding. This workload supports AVX-512 and requires careful attention to offsets. RAM bandwidth will also play a role, especially during extended sessions. There are also compact configurations that allow for marginally higher clock speeds.
I hope so, though I’m not sure about the quality of my chip. 4.6Gghz appears to be the most reliable, and going above 4.7Ghz doesn’t seem to make much difference, which is quite unusual.
