I swapped out the stock cooler and added a Peerless Assassin 120 SE to my Ryzen 5 2600x (Asus B450MA-2, 2x8gb Crucial 3200 DDR4). It immediately improved my temperatures and boost performance. I set PBO in BIOS to "enable" now, giving me some flexibility with the temperature settings. Everything else stayed auto. Performance is still smooth with no crashes. Temperatures are excellent, but HWinfo64 shows idle voltages around 3GHz. Cinebench shows strong results—maximum boost to 4.248GHz across all cores at 1.544V and a peak of 59°C. I’m using the balanced power plan. PBO is quite intricate with core boosting, but it’s working well. Is this voltage setting harmful over time or just part of its behavior? Everything is functioning correctly. The 5900X has recorded 1.55v from PBO, and even the older 3600XT often showed those readings.

That's a peak voltage, it's fine. If it was constantly at that 1.55V then it would be an issue. There is a big difference between peak and sustained scenarios.

Yup, if it was really getting the full 1.55v, you would for sure know it lol. There is little current behind the voltage when pushing higher SC loads. As you load up the cores, you will see clocks and voltages relax as PPT goes up.

Your CPU could gain performance with a slight negative voltage offset, such as -0.05 or -0.1. This may result in improved temperatures.

I'll check it. There seem to be three settings in PBO that you can change automatically.

The voltage isn't directly set in the PBO configuration; it appears in the CPU settings, similar to an overclock adjustment.

Interesting but over time it seems PBO is improving from its early stages after activation. It can now run at 4.25ghz on every core while keeping a maximum of 1.45v. The idle voltage spikes have disappeared completely.
