Is this RAM compatible with your system?
I bought a 16gb Dual channel DDR4-3200 kit from Crucial (Ballistix sport grey) for my new build that's going to use a Ryzen 5 3600 and an Asus Prime b450-plus motherboard, both of which are supposed to support DDR4-3200. If I put together the build and boot it up, the RAM should run fine, right? I'm aware it might not run at 3200mhz first time and that some bios settings may need changing, but it should work fine until I'm able to play around with XMP, right? Sorry if this is a bit of a nooby question. Had a similar situation with DDR3-1600 back on a budget H81 board a few years back and it ran on 1333 to start with, totally fine otherwise, until I changed the speed setting in BIOS and it was fine at normal speed after that. Just checking that things haven't changed since I've been away
Yes, it will function. However, you need to install XMP first.
Clarify whether XMP affects the frequency only after activation or if it immediately changes performance once enabled. Regarding RAM power settings, check if adjustments are needed when switching to 3200 MHz after enabling XMP.
Yes. Otherwise it will operate at 2133MHz just by enabling XMP. You don’t have to do anything further.
It should work best without XMP enabled, operating at 2133MHz. Turning XMP on lets the RAM run at its maximum speed, but unless the CPU is limiting it, this should be fine. From what I've seen, you probably won't need to adjust any other settings beyond enabling XMP.
