Is this PSU or motherboard problem?
I attempted to power on my PC and it doesn’t start. My initial check pointed to a PSU or motherboard issue. As shown in the video, after turning on the PSU the board lights up but nothing happens when I press the power button. I have two M.2 SSDs with crucial data that I need to recover. If this isn’t solvable, can I still try to salvage the information? Specs: i5-9400F 4060 Gigabyte Gaming OC ASRock B365 Phantom Gaming 4 Team T-FORCE Vulcan Z 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3200MHz 500W Bronze PSU.
The power supply unit you're using is what needs to be checked for compatibility with your SSD.
This was a ready-made PC with upgrades like a new GPU and extra SSD. I’m not sure the exact model, but it’s an EVGA 500W Bronze. If I built another computer and added both drives, there might be driver issues or Windows problems that could affect data safety.
Unlikely unless your system has been impacted by a faulty power supply unit. I’d still install a new SSD for Windows and use the remaining drives from your old PC to restore data. Also, here’s a suggestion. Given the importance of your files, backups are essential. Flash drives and external HDDs are both affordable options. I own two 2TB external HDDs and one 1TB Kingston DataTraveler Max drive. A single backup isn’t sufficient. You’re turning the PSU on during the video—do you usually switch it off?
Windows handles adapters well, but it could cause some issues. Be aware that a full reset will erase everything on the existing storage. If you have important or valuable files, consider using a 128GB SSD for installation instead of risking data loss. This approach is not ideal. Avoid this method altogether.
Could you check the PSU label? Was there any adjustment to the PC before this issue occurred?
