Having what I'm guessing are some power issues with my system, curious if my PSU is up to the task, and if there may be any discernible correlation between the issues I'm having and hard evidence of the PSU's max wattage being the problem. So, issue is that my system gets very hot, and also hard shuts down. No restart, no bsod, just a sudden power cut. The reason I list the "and" in the above, is because I was always thinking it was simply an overheating issue with my GPU. I've changed from a 6900xt, to a 3090, (Both power hungry) and it's having the exact same issue, so now I'm back to square 1 (though at least with the GPU I wanted last year, finally got the white edition 3090 at msrp from newegg! ) So as mentioned, assumed it was bad thermals with the GPU, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Could I be hitting max load on the PSU and losing power from it? So I'm gonna list my specs and maybe someone can confirm if I'm just way past my load threshold? I've been having PC issues for over a year now, and have not yet been able to actually enjoy any gaming beyond indie titles (which are fun, but still) and other low impact games... I should not be having issues running anything at all on this system... Unless there's a problem... Of note: It only powers off when running something that's a high / heavy load on the GPU, which is why I initially thought it was a GPU or GPU Thermal issue. This is being run off of an 850 watt Gold Cooler Master PSU. Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL ROG Crosshair VIII Formula AMD Ryzen 9 5950x Gigabyte Aorus 360 AIO (the one with the screen) 64gb (2x32gb) T-Force XTreem ARGB DDR4 3600 2x 4TB HDD's (Seagate, probably, I forget.) 1x Samsung 980 Pro 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 1x 1tb T-Force Delta Max ARGB SSD GPU's tried, as mentioned, a Reference AMD RX 6900XT, and also tested with an ASUS ROG 3090 White Edition. And now we get into all the extras... 6x Lian Li SL120's 7x Lian Li AL 120's Each with their own controller, though the AL's fans spin, but ARGB is not lighting up, still troubleshooting, but could be related if power issues?) Elgato PCIe 4k Capture Card And these are something I'm hearing can make a huge difference? 3x Lenovo G27Q 27" QHD (2560 x 1440) IPS 165Hz monitors 1x Sony Bravia 1080 3DTV PSU calculators never seem to address things like specific mobo's, where some can have their own fans, argb or even screens, or additional case fans, radiator fans or other peripherals like the capture card or the fact that I'm running 3x monitors at 2k 165hz and another in 3d (which I gather effectively equates to another 2k screen due to a 1080x2 video stream) So there's a ton of extra power running through that sucker, is 850 watts actually enough? What should I be shooting for if not? 1000 watt? Or even higher with this system? Well, at least it's pretty... other than those 7 fans... My main worry is that "might" play a role here. I was told when I set up the system that 850 watts was "more than enough," but I’m really hoping for proof it’s not true or for something else entirely could be the problem. In short, this machine is huge and should function perfectly, just like The Man said. Thanks for your response! - D

The system is heating up noticeably. It seems the cooling setup isn't performing optimally under load. With a mix of fan types and limited airflow, it's possible fans are competing or the AIO isn't moving coolant effectively. The case layout might also be causing turbulence rather than smooth ventilation.

The CPU remains relatively stable, while the GPU experiences significant heat. The fan settings currently seem appropriate; I've tested various configurations and reversed them without success. I'm exploring alternative cooling methods to determine their impact. It looks like switching the fans back to exhaust via the AIO would be effective, as it maintains CPU temperature well. Although the incoming cool air through the case still feels cooler after passing through the radiator, I might need to reapply load to observe shutdown behavior and verify temperatures before powering off.

We need more precise details. Could you share the actual figures? Also, which PSU model are you using? Are the white cables extensions, custom, or factory-made?

First, I’m skeptical about having three fans on each side of that radiator. Second, if the fans are directed toward one another, heat will become trapped between them, making it ineffective and likely causing overheating. This is straightforward to test with a simple paper test—if the paper moves, airflow is working; if it stays put, the issue is with the setup. Cooler Master V850 Gold White Edition V2 is a fully modular 80+ Gold semi-fanless system. I usually push the hardware to its limits just to check temperatures, but I'm careful not to risk another shutdown. This setup uses only factory cables from the PSU, and I'm still unsure why I chose this specific power supply. It might have been recommended or a result of early 2021 stock availability. The combination of capacity and price likely played a role—after getting a 5950 and a 6900xt, I wonder if quality drops at higher wattages. Seasonic is often praised, but it seems their titanium options become less reliable around 1000 watts.

I believe the 750W/850W specs set by manufacturers mainly relate to startup spikes rather than everyday usage. Still, for a small extra cost... it’s worth looking into airflow problems in your rig as well, since you could face serious overheating if the fans aren’t working properly.
