On my laptop with 4GB RAM, opening Firefox with many tabs uses only about 1.8GB. On my new PC with 16GB RAM, Firefox with several tabs uses around 2.5GB. Why the difference? It seems the amount of RAM matters more than the number of tabs you open. I can share more if needed.

It seems your PC likely had a larger page file, and physical memory usage increased only after adding more RAM. That's completely normal.

That's typical. Plus, a fresh PC usually comes with more RAM, and it also varies based on the operating system—32-bit or 64-bit.

When RAM is limited, the operating system will compress data or store it in a page file as needed. 16GB provides sufficient space without compression, allowing many apps to be cached quickly. A 32-bit OS on your laptop may also use less memory.
