Is this a brightness defect - yay or nay? (LG 32GQ950-B)
Bought a new LG 32GQ950-B the other week and trying to figure out if the attachted images show a defect. On the center left there appears to be a bright spot which is very distracting to me. It's less noticeable on "light mode", but strongly prefer "dark mode" (using Dark Reader extension and/or f.lux) due to migraines. I do get occasional 1 or 2 second black screens as well a couple times a day as well. Trying to get a second opinion as to whether it's indeed a defect and/or if yes, whether others would it bothersome as well. (FWIW. the monitor went from 'out for delivery' to 'arriving the next day', but the box didn't show any obvious damage) I've tried reinstalling Nvidia graphics card driver, mointor driver, and doing a fresh install of Windows. Sorry for the mess, I didn’t get much rest. My mind’s really tired. I’ll snap some photos with my phone and let the OP know soon.
Sure! Open Notepad in full screen and capture the entire screen image. Then take a photo of a dark Paint document with gray tones. Observe any unusual blue or purple hues—possibly from your monitor or room lighting. This might indicate an uneven backlight or poor diffuser quality.
The blue glow originates from certain Hue Play lightbars positioned behind the screen. It seems they should be a dark grey color.
Contact LG assistance. If all other lights were switched off, there might be inconsistent backlighting.
Thanks for your reply. I’ll reach out to Amazon to request a return and replacement since I bought the monitor there. The only lighting I usually use at the computer are my monitors, the Hue play bars, and my phone screen (TV or iPad display). Given my migraines and budgeting style, I tend not to keep lights on often.
Consider using subtle white light behind your screen. It can help reduce eye strain and make colors appear more natural.
The new monitor arrived this afternoon and after two hours of use the backlight has become much more even. I’m hoping this model will face fewer problems. I’ll send back the old one to Amazon. This issue is marked as "solved." Earlier, the old monitor reported "out of range" despite not being overclocked; it showed white, green, or black lines across the lower third and a pinkish hue in the upper right corner. Restarting fixed it temporarily, but it seems this problem will likely happen sooner than expected.
