Is there someone with a gaming PC setup in their living room?
I've designed my own "HTPC" for streaming Netflix, other sites, YouTube, downloading files, and some gaming. I started with a Coolermaster Elite130 case and added whatever was affordable at the time. Now it runs an undervolted i3 4130, 8GB DDR3, and a 4GB GTX 960. While it isn't a high-end gaming rig, its standard component dimensions make future upgrades straightforward. It's compact enough to maintain good airflow and quiet operation with the right cooling setup. There are suitable ITX boards available that support more powerful components, though I'm limited to a two-card video slot.
I have an HTPC in my living room equipped with a Ryzen 5 2400g and a GTX 1060 3gb card for casual gaming and streaming activities with my wife. It's an ITX system that fits nicely in a compact Silverstone chassis.
It's not in the living room itself, but I can access it from there. It's located in the basement next to the home theater and connects through the receiver. I've set the second zone output to the TV on the first floor, which is helpful because it allows me to control inputs and outputs separately for each area. The main difficulty was losing the wireless kb/mouse and XB1 controller. I resolved it by using a longer USB cable and hub, routed below the upstairs room, which still provides strong coverage downstairs. It also functions as a media/Plex server, letting me stream directly from it or share content with other devices.
My primary computer has been in the living room for as long as we've resided here. It enhances our interaction since my wife and I often play together. I have a Micro-ATX configuration on a desk that serves as part of my main media center.
I intend to purchase a new television this year to add another display unit to my PC, allowing me to expand its capabilities.
I own my Nvidia Shield in the living room, thinking it offers better usability for everyday tasks beyond gaming.
It depends on what you're aiming for.
I sometimes move my desktop downstairs to the living room (my computer isn't fast but it's not huge) so I can enjoy playing Forza Horizon 4.
I'm thinking about upgrading to a Ryzen secondary machine to avoid playing games from 2013 or earlier with such difficulty, though we'll see how it turns out.
Right now my setup has a Phenom II X3 B75 and it mainly streams YouTube and Spotify.
