Hey, I had a Word document that got lost when I uninstalled some software because it was stuck in my folder. It used to be on the C drive, which is an SSD. Oh yeah, I installed that software back later. Now I want a recovery tool that's either free or costs about $30 max. I already tried Disk Drill and it didn't work at all. Easeus is too full of ads and they claim it's free for 30 days but I found out on Reddit that it does nothing and isn't really free. Help me please!

USAFRet says Recuva is the best free tool, but I haven't used it for a while because I don't have it installed on my computer right now. The thing I still remember though is that when it finds files, they sometimes have weird names. So if you need to find Word documents, you might get a file with random letters instead of the proper name. This means you could have to open every single word file Recuva finds for me just like that has been happening since I last used it.
Yes, really. SSDs don't spin like old hard drives. When you delete something on a spinning disk, it just gets marked as gone and the data keeps sitting there until someone eventually overwrites it. With an SSD, marking happens right away, and when garbage collection runs (which can happen in seconds), the cells that held the deleted file are wiped clean so they're ready to use again. This cleanup happens anytime the drive turns on. That's why we always back up your stuff. If you didn't have a backup, you'd be in this mess now.
I tried using Recuva, but it didn't find anything I needed. I also looked at the file by its content and still got no results. But there was one thing that happened: Recuva can actually find some other files on my SSD even if they were deleted half a year ago! Thanks for your help!
