Is there anyone who knows where to purchase an i9 9980HK?
You're likely curious about why I'm upgrading my laptop's CPU. I understand the challenge involved and have completed all necessary research for compatibility and support. The main hurdle will be overclocking, which is limited by the BIOS. I’m fine with that since I already want a higher-end processor, and in the future I might look for alternatives. Right now, I plan to solder the old i7 9750H and install the new i9 9980HK. Possibly, someone professional will handle the work. For those curious about the device, it’s a Dell G7 17 (7790), i7 9750H, RTX 2060, with 16 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM.
Sell the laptop and get the one you want? If you do find the 9980hk you'll end up paying a premium for it as it probably won't be just the CPU.. Maybe find a laptop on ebay that has one in it that says for parts or something (could be CPU problem, though, lol, but maybe not). Is this even possible, though? Why do this in the first place?
Soldering involves complex equipment that demands significant investment... consider upgrading to a new laptop rather than attempting repairs. Intel's mobile CPUs are built with BGA, which stands for Ball Grid Array. A YouTube tutorial by Louis Rossmann demonstrates the resoldering procedure on a MacBook Pro motherboard, similar steps are shown here. The necessary setup costs around a few thousand dollars in the US.
