Is there any connection between overheating, shutdowns, and game stuttering after installing a cooler?
The events unfolded as they occurred. Roughly two and a half years ago, I purchased a prebuilt PC from ibuypower (refer to images with 2060 GPU). About a month prior, it began overheating (tempering above 90°C during driver troubleshooting) and would shut down. It was found that the included stock 120mm AIO liquid cooler was failing, so I replaced it with a new Hyper 212 Halo Black air cooler. Temperatures have since stabilized.
After the cooler replacement, two ongoing problems emerged. First, there was an unusual screen flicker with black shapes appearing during video playback on platforms like Facebook and YouTube. Second, World of Warcraft transitioned from smooth performance to immediate stuttering when pulling a boss or under load. The issue persisted briefly but then leveled off, making gameplay noticeably smoother, though still somewhat laggy. Previously, I had never experienced any lag or stuttering.
I retrieved my old Radeon XFX RX 480 (see images) and attempted to use it instead of the RTX 2060. Fortunately, the screen flickering ceased. Could the CPU overheating have affected the GPU somehow?
The stuttering in WoW continued even after switching to a different GPU. What might be causing this? The overall system feels slower than expected when launching programs—could the CPU have been damaged?
Did you test DDU on your previous GPU to check for driver issues? Remove all GPU drivers using DDU, then reinstall the newest GPU driver from the manufacturer's website in an elevated command. Your screenshots should exclude the PSU make and model details; provide that information as well. Also share your ambient room temperature readings. How long has the PSU been installed?
Sorry, I'm not very familiar with these terms. The elevated command refers to a specific setting or feature. PSU is 600 watts, 80 plus gold. The case is a slate hako mr mid tower. The power supply came with the PC when I purchased it. Room temperatures are around 76F, and there are no cooling problems anymore. Even during stutters, temperatures don't spike.
