Prepared to tackle this problem? Let’s work through it together.
The issue has persisted for about four months, especially during low-power usage such as watching YouTube. The screen may go black, then briefly flash red before the system either recovers or crashes completely. A reboot usually restores the PC. This behavior doesn’t occur during gaming or heavy tasks.

Hardware and Software Details:
- Model: Strix 690-I
- Processor: Intel 13700K
- Motherboard: Strix 4090
- RAM: G.skill DDR55 32GB (16x2) at 6400MT/s CL32-39-39-102
- Power Supply: Corsair SFX 1000W PSU
- Case: NZXT cooler
- Storage: 980 Pro SSD
- Source link: [Amazon product page](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...ar...merReviews)
- Operating System: Windows 11

Recent Changes Made:
- Switched GPU to a new Asus unit (original was removed).
- Updated CPU and board.
- Replaced RAM with a different manufacturer.
- Installed a be quiet 1000W PSU.
- Changed riser cable and DisplayPort cable. Tested HDMI 2.1 and new SSD.

Troubleshooting Steps Attempted:
- Performed a full system reformat and fresh Windows install.
- Updated all drivers and BIOS.
- Connected only essential components to isolate potential USB issues.
- Switched display ports and HDMI ports.
- Verified temperatures were normal, no overclocking.
- Re-seated all cables multiple times.
- Disabled riser card.
- Tested integrated graphics independently.

Despite these efforts, the problem continues. It’s running at default settings now, but it still flickers or freezes under low power conditions. I’ve also reset the machine and applied the latest Windows 11 updates with updated GPU drivers. The issue persists.

I’m considering a video demonstration of the flicker or black screen to help identify the cause.
If you’d like, we can try replicating the situation by watching YouTube for a short time and then increasing the GPU fan speed to maximum. This often triggers the display issues. It might point to grounding problems in the test bench build or simply a display fault.

I’m determined to resolve this. Let’s keep working through these adjustments until we find a permanent fix.

Where did you obtain the OS installer? Did you rebuild it to avoid a faulty copy? It's recommended to install the operating system without an internet connection first, then add all necessary drivers—using the most recent versions—in an elevated command prompt. After that, connect to the internet and allow the OS to update automatically.

There must be a certain level of current drawn from a power source for it to operate correctly. I believe this would be an atypical failure, though anything can happen. This description matches what you’re experiencing. The issue appearing only when a minimum load is applied might support this idea.

Thanks for the reply!
Each time I make a new bootable drive from another computer, I've also purchased a fresh USB stick.
I attempted to use DDU today to delete the drivers and reinstall just the drivers.
I observe that when the display cuts out it shows red/black glitches but restores if I press a key like the spacebar. If I don't press anything, it stays black and eventually crashes the machine. I'll share a video of the glitching behavior later.

Sometimes it's simple to recreate this effect by turning the GPU fans up to their maximum. It's odd I realize it, but it usually ends up causing a few shaky moments. Usually it doesn't look too intense.

I've attempted to connect three distinct power supplies. I tried using my friends' 1200w PSU, which worked well with their 4090 adapter, but the problem continued. I also purchased a UPS and tested various outlets inside the house, yet the issue remained.

I also attempted to switch the fans, possibly due to an issue with the RGB 3 pin cable. Currently.

I believe I found a significant hint in this situation. I received a black screen that automatically recovered after a short time. Discord reported that the audio path had changed. By default, when installing Windows, there is an audio out option named "SPDIF interface (realtek usb 2.0 audio)."

Do you have any suggestions? It seems like it's still happening with various monitors and cables.
