Is there a way to turn a capture card into a video and audio stream for Discord without using OBS?
Hey everyone, I'm stuck on this and don't know what to do because Google won't help much. Basically, my girlfriend's kid is watching a movie with a friend using Discord, but that friend is only streaming via his webcam. I want to find a better way for them so it works better. I have a special video card (EVGA XR1) and can put the video in OBS together with a fake webcam to use in Discord. So the picture isn't an issue. The problem is just the sound. I can't figure out how to pipe the audio into the stream that goes to Discord, right now. Naturally, his friend needs both the movie's music/sound and his own microphone for the call. Even though I know a little about OBS and Discord, it seems hard for me to get this all working. Anyone with some tips? Or maybe another way around?
You can either use a screen share or make a virtual webcam. The virtual webcam won't get your voice over it, so you'll need another way for the sound. If you do a screen share, you can have the mic work while talking on the computer. But I'm not sure where to start with putting both the video and audio together. I don't think Discord lets you send two different voices at once.
Hey Barty, I haven't done much research on this yet and I might be totally wrong, but from what I've just read, you need two input devices. A regular sound card and maybe an external USB sound card for the inputs. Then you can use a program like VoiceMeeter to combine multiple inputs into a virtual device that other software can use. Looking at the screen shot of VoiceMeeter on their homepage shows 3 different audio input devices being combined into a single virtual output device that can be used by other software. Like I said, I haven't researched this and probably can't answer any more questions about it. I haven't tried it either. But hopefully it will give you some ideas for trying something new. If anyone else finds this, here is a way that works... It's not perfect, but it does the job. Connect your capture card and monitor output to OBS alone. Then, open Discord on your computer and share your application window (not your screen). I found that this feature only exists inside the app itself, not in the browser. From there, go full screen in OBS with your video feed. Your audio from the app goes into Discord just like your regular mic does. There is no double audio or virtual splits needed. Based on what I know, it should work even if you use VLC media player, though I ran into some errors along the way. So, best of luck to everyone else!
