I find it very annoying that installers for certain programs and games forcefully auto-install outdated versions of redist packages I already have. For example GTA 4's installer will forcefully install ancient versions of MS Visual C++ 2005 x86 and GFWL, or Steam always installs MS Visual C++ when you install a new game. Is there anyway to prevent this so that I don't have to uninstall and reinstall redist packages?

Sorry for the delayed response, but it doesn't need to be fixed this time. I've removed the old version and installed the newer one, and it's functioning perfectly. I just need a method to avoid this issue in the future.
