You're looking to see if any main parts fail during boot without using a CPU cooler, saving money by avoiding a $10 purchase. It's possible to test this by running the system and checking for crashes or errors. You can also try booting with minimal components to isolate the issue.

Sure thing. Let me know if you need anything adjusted.

You can start from the desktop, tap the CPU, or use a laser temp gun. Shut it down when it lands on the desktop at startup.

Yes, approximately three minutes is acceptable. You shouldn't go beyond about 60 seconds...

Open BIOS via POST/get and keep it idle; power off is acceptable. Launch the desktop boot sequence, which will take a while, but don’t worry. I experienced this with my 5960X during a rebuild—when I entered BIOS, it was extremely hot (>60°C) within ten seconds.

Carry a waterblock and place it on the CPU—it should work fine. If you don’t have one, a bare CPU might stop functioning after about three minutes. After that, just use the BIOS, which can run for up to thirty seconds.

The system will power itself off to avoid further harm. Avoid turning it back on immediately if it does so. Allow it to settle down. A short post-test is acceptable—no need for a temperature gun, and don’t handle it with your fingers (unless you’re curious about testing the stove’s temp with your own hand).

Use an air can and invert it to help lower the CPU temperature.
