I had this situation before... he made a video of him assembling a computer with his daughter, using the same motherboard I own – the ASUS WS PRO X570-ACE. My setup includes 32GB XPG RAM, 1TB SSD, 3500/3000MB XPG Candybar, and a WD SSD 1TB. I’ve seen the SATA ports slow down with the WD drive, losing around 100MB/s. There are also problems with USB ports. I’m curious if there’s a video showing an external STARTech 3.1 enclosure with a 12TB drive. When I connect it via USB, Windows won’t even start properly – sometimes it spins the logo, other times it takes ages to boot and then freezes with a spinning circle. If I try to shut it down, it won’t unless I unplug the cable. Using my X3 Adata 1TB NVMe drive, the system runs sluggishly and seems to be hogging resources. I’ve noticed this issue before too – sometimes bad USB cables or worn drives cause similar problems. On my laptops, a 12TB WD GOLD or Ultrastar drive works fine with the right ports, so I’m wondering if he’s experienced this before or if there are fixes? starting with the 1tb NVMe boots first... the external drive isn’t bootable—it’s a 12TB storage unit for music and files. If Windows starts and the screen spins, it might take about five minutes on a fresh install using a 3500Mb SSD. When you try to boot from USB, the circle spins, but pulling in the external USB cable works. Running Crystal Disk Report via USB C also crashes the program, locking it when creating test files and shutting off the drive. I still get a drive letter and files, but connecting through regular USB ports (3.2Gen) doesn’t recognize it. This has happened over 20 years with USB devices and internal drives—I’ve never seen it fail completely before.
