Hi I have 4 PCs running Windows 10 connected through a cable Gigabit Network Switch - one acting as a file server and the rest as clients. Only one of the clients (The Threadripper one, by my signature) has much slower LAN speeds than all others, averaging around 20MB/s compared to 100MB/s for the others. I need to fix this. The machine has 2x network adapters (one is 1Gb the other 2.5Gb, both on the motherboard), and this happens on both of them. I have tried using various cables, and the same cables make the 100MB/s speeds on the other computers - so it's not the cable's fault. I have tried resetting network settings, adapters etc (for instance following these instructions https://www.thewindowsclub.com/slow-ethe...on-windows), but the problem keeps coming back. Can you please help me fix this? Many thanks!

did you try a different port at the switch? did you reinstall the lan drivers from the lan chip manufacturers (intel and realtek)? maybe install the right software: Intel® Netzwerkadapter-Treiber für Windows® 10 or www.intel.de? also update the BIOS of your motherboard

Hey guys, I tested a few different ports. Alright, I'm going to fix the drivers and the BIOS now, then I'll tell you what happens later. Thanks so much! 👍

Hey, I just fixed up my LAN drivers and the BIOS settings look a bit smoother now, but it's still not going full speed. Any suggestions or tips from you guys? Thanks so much!

have you rebooted your computer instead of just turning off and on again? shutting down doesn't clear everything, only a restart wipes the cache. If you have a third-party firewall or antivirus running, does that stop windows from working? maybe try booting up an Ubuntu live USB (no installation needed) to see if it works better for now.

thanks for the input 👍 yes, i have restarted everything. glasswire was installed - i tried killing the process, but avast antivirus is still running on it too. same thing happens with every other computer. happy to try live ubuntu though... again, all other computers have the exact same windows and most software versions installed... they seem to work fine. i am really baffled. also, i know for a fact that not too long ago i had speeds just like everyone else... can't verify when it changed though. have had no major changes at all... so strange.

Try other ways to get data through the system instead of just using the switch or wall jacks. Run a long, working ethernet cable straight from your slow computer to the router if you can. Change which connection paths you use with a fast computer. See if the problem remains on the slow one or stays only where it came in. Is there a reason why the slow machine has two network cards? Make sure only one of those is turned on at a time, don't turn both on together.

Hey, thank you for sharing your advice. To be honest, I've already tried this before to make sure the issue isn't with the cable or the switch. Specifically: 1) I plugged in a long, working cable straight from both working computers and to the problem computer using the same port on the switch. The error still shows up on the problem computer just like it did above. 2) I tried the same thing using a different port of the switch. Result was identical. 3) I plugged directly into the router instead. Result stayed the same. 4) I bought a new USB Gigabit Ethernet port and tested it. Still no luck. 5) I made a brand new user account and logged out of my old one. Nothing changed either time. Also, I don't really know why the motherboard has two ethernet ports at all—it's just built that way! (one is for 1Gbps and the other for 2.5Gbps). I'm starting to think it might be a software problem holding me back here. Any more tips anyone could give? The only thing I haven't tried yet is using live Ubuntu. Thanks so much in advance.
