Is there a requirement to disable Turbo Boost during overclocking?
I've been attempting to overclock my i7-3820 to about 4.65GHz with a H80i GT. Adjusting the BCLK multiplier still causes crashes and prevents booting. I checked a guide on Reddit, but it didn't help. I ended up leaving the BCLK at x1 and overclocking to 4.2GHz, but forgot to disable turbo boost. Now I'm hitting 4.87GHz at full load, and the system is stable after an hour of Prime95 testing. Temperatures have reached 66°C. Is it really necessary to turn off turbo boost? This overclock seems to be functioning properly.
Manvir Singh says it's not essential, but you could achieve a higher overclock without the boost. If you disable turbo, your OC settings might not be recognized. Mobo mentions an Asus X99-A and notes that different chipset and CPU architecture affect performance. It's recommended to create a new thread for assistance if needed.
