Is there a recent issue with a critical process failing?
Two weeks ago I was checking the forum when my Windows froze with a critical error and no warning appeared. After turning off the computer, I disassembled it, fixed the PSU placement (it wasn’t properly secured), and everything functioned normally. Recently, while playing GTA V, it again crashed with "critical process died." This time it restarted automatically but stayed on the boot screen for a short while before showing the troubleshooting screen. I tried booting normally in BIOS, but it looped back to the same screen. After changing settings, I accessed the boot manager and pressed F10, which resolved the issue. I searched online but didn’t find anything similar. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated—I’d really prefer my PC to run smoothly.
Thanks for the update. My M.2 SSD is used for booting and gaming, so I'm wondering if it contributed to the crashes. I'll investigate further. It seems the first incident occurred the following day after installing a new case and AIO. Not sure if that's relevant. I'm reviewing the Event Viewer and only noticed one major error: Kernel-Power 41 (63). I've found some discussions and am trying to troubleshoot step by step. Fingers crossed it resolves.
Ok so Kernel power is just telling you the power went out unexpectedly don't worry about that. Yes see what CrystalDiskInfo says on that drive. So it was running fine before you put it in a new case and put the new cooling system on?
This error usually indicates the computer was shut down improperly after the blue screen. It might point to issues with your storage devices or your graphics driver. You could reinstall the driver or revert to an earlier version. If your drives appear fine and the driver change doesn’t help, we can check your hardware one component at a time. See if the problem occurs only with GTA and whether other programs were running at the same time.
It worked well before, but after scanning the SSD and HDD, the HDD required repair. Running the repair command confirmed it fixed the issue. No major concerns beyond that repair.
The HDD serves as a backup storage device. I wasn’t using any applications from that drive, so it likely remained idle. I opened the properties and scan options in Windows File Manager to check.
You haven't made any changes yet, but you're considering updating the graphics driver. Since both crashes originate from the same issue, it might be best to apply the Windows update 1803 before proceeding. Installing the update could resolve the problem.
