Hello techwizards, i need some help. About a year ago i upgraded my pc from Intel 9700k + 16B DDR4 to AMD 7900x + 32GB DDR5. Ever since then i've had a couple of issues with the PC, both having to do with booting. 1. sometimes when i boot up the pc, eveything is just stuttery and i mean everything, even just moving my mouse is stuttery. First thought is that it's a driver issue, but over the year i've tried every solution i have been able to find and nothing has fixed this issue. When it happens, i have to shut down the pc completely and then start it up again. 2. Sometimes when trying to boot up my PC, it goes to BIOS instead, closing out of BIOS would cause the PC to reboot and start normally so i never bothered doing any real troubleshooting for this. Today this happened again and i noticed that my boot drive wasn't detected at all. I'm not that tech savvy but i started thinking, could there be an issue with my motherboard that's causing both of my problems, or do you guys have any other ideas for what might be causing them? BIOS is up to date. Any and all ideas are appreciated. Thanks! Side note, since the upgrade, every time i boot up my PC, the fans run at high rpm for 10+ seconds before the PC actually boots, i remember googling this some time ago and found someone saying it's normal, so i just accepted it, just to double check, is it normal?

It seems you're unsure about the core problem, but I can confirm it's typical. Fans usually run at full speed until the system boots, after which your BIOS sets the fan profile.

MSi often faces problems with their BIOS. Updating can sometimes fix it, but other times it doesn't. You may need to rely on an older BIOS for better performance.

According to @BillBill, refresh your bios if possible. Use TestMem5 or a better version of Memtest86 to verify RAM. Replug and re-seat everything, ensuring all connections are secure. My MSI PC struggles with high RPMs, so I adjusted the fan curves in BIOS and chose DC or PWM settings. Updated on June 11, 2024 by leclod

Thank you for the feedback. I verified the seating arrangement and ran Memtest86 on both sticks, with no issues detected.

Consider terminating dwm.exe via Task Manager to observe the outcome. Check your current memory utilization. If the system refuses to start with particular RAM configurations, it might force a BIOS restart and reset RAM settings. Past experiences show some RAM overclocks can cause cold boots but may work after BIOS restart. Have you attempted swapping the SSD for a different one?

I believe the issue involves CPU connected PCIe lanes. Some of the problems you're facing seem related to that. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting my PC, thinking it was the GPU or motherboard. I encountered strange stuttering and performance drops. I changed memory, GPU, PSU, motherboard, and NVMe drives—thankfully I had plenty of spare parts. Eventually, the PC stopped responding at all and wouldn<|pad|> to reach POST. It turned out the CPU had failed from the start, and after a year it just broke down completely. Moral: Even though rare, defective CPUs can happen.
