Hey everyone! I'm facing a really frustrating problem right now. Suddenly, my games stop working because the RAM usage jumps to 100% and causes huge frame drops, making them impossible to play. It started without warning, and even after lowering the game settings to their minimum, it still keeps using all that memory. I've checked which processes are consuming RAM, but only the game is hogging it. My PC specs are an AMD Radeon 7800XT, Ryzen 5 5800X3D, 16GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM, and a B450 Tomahawk Max. Anyone have any insights into what might be causing this? Thanks a lot!
The games you're experiencing problems with are quite memory-intensive. With other apps installed, they tend to run continuously in the background, gradually consuming more RAM. For instance, Hogwarts Legacy requires at least 16GB of RAM. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II needs around 8GB, and Windows 11 alone uses about 4-6GB when idle. Even though you mentioned not having issues, the minimum RAM requirement for your listed game is only 4GB. This strongly suggests background bloatware is involved.
I see your point, but I've been using those games consistently over the past year with identical settings. The problem only appears when I lower them to the minimum. ProcessExplorer didn't reveal any significant background bloatware. Additionally, in Call of Duty, RAM usage jumps from about 70-80% during the first match to around 100% and remains high thereafter.
It's clear the increase happens naturally in the game. Fortnite behaves this way even on a 16GB PC.
