I mean without linking the TV directly to the PC, I attempted to use a Steam link to show it on my phone, and then mirrored the phone to the TV, but that didn't succeed.

windows will reflect over bluetooth if your tv supports the link.
but i wouldn't recommend it. wireless connections add significant delay, which is a major drawback when playing games. audio and your inputs will also be affected by this lag, often making the experience poor.
using a direct hdmi cable would be the optimal choice for connecting your tv as a monitor.

Yes, though my PC is far away from my TV, I still want to enjoy some couch gaming occasionally, even if it's just a small thing.

I also have a 30 ft HDMI connection to my TV for the same purpose. I believe I spent around $15 on Amazon. I added a Bluetooth controller so I don’t have to stretch that cable across the room, and I really like the big screen for gaming and movies. I understand why you want something like this too.

I just wish there was some low latency way to do it without a cable. I wouldn't mind using steam link on my phone if not for the tiny screen and the fact that I would need something to hold up the phone.

I've experienced it with the windows mirroring and it caused significant lag. A point-and-click game or a family board game night would be suitable, but anything involving action wouldn't work.
I tried it with a racing game and it felt like driving under the influence (or so I've heard).
There might be a solution, but I haven't come across it myself.

There isn't a way to avoid the delay. You need a cable or you must accept the lag. Sorry.

It seems you're wondering why Steam Link offers lower latency compared to methods like Windows Mirroring. The key lies in how each approach handles data transmission and processing. Steam Link optimizes the connection by leveraging advanced networking techniques, while Windows Mirroring can introduce delays due to its more traditional method of copying content. This difference helps explain the improved performance you're observing.
