Is there a heavy load causing crashes and damaging the OS on an SSD?
Issue
Opening Chrome takes 3-4 minutes and triggers a blue screen that occasionally damages the SDD/OS. This has occurred twice, necessitating a full Windows reinstall to restore functionality. Once, during a heavy Photoshop session with lots of RAM usage, it also led to the SSD becoming unreadable. A screenshot is available here: https://imgur.com/a/jkeK4bP. The report mentions "critical process died."
Tests
Performed memtest86 with no errors after four tests. Cinebench and Prime95 showed no issues and maintained good performance. No viruses detected; drivers are up to date, and the BIOS was tested on an older version. Various SATA cables and ports were tried. The SSD tested with CrystalDisk (95% success rate). Possible driver-related problems were identified, which were resolved by disabling certain services after the crash. The PC has experienced shutdowns due to overheating during overclocking, but stability improved after the overclock was reduced and Prime95 was used.
SOLUTION?
What might be causing this? Additional tests could help clarify. My suspicion is related to RAM issues, though memtest86 confirmed zero errors. Upgrading to a 32GB RAM might provide further relief.
SSD connection drops due to overheating or faulty hardware. File handles aren't closed correctly, file system becomes corrupted. Windows stops working because it can't reach the SSD. Consider replacing the faulty SSD. It's best to avoid Kingston SSDs.
It might also be due to loose SATA cables. However, you mentioned replacing the SATA cables.
There could be a VRM overheating issue.
Turn off all overclocking settings.
Your board lacks heatsinks on the VRMs, making it unsuitable for any form of overclocking.
Have you performed any DRAM overclocking? High DRAM voltages can harm the CPU memory controller.
attempted to launch chrome and perform other activities at the same time without the OC, issue continued, blue screen occurred again
Thank you very much for your assistance, it means a lot. This is really frustrating for me.
