Hello everyone, recently acquired a new prebuilt PC which is experiencing input lag. It's quite noticeable—something subtle but extremely challenging for competitive FPS games. It feels like you're navigating through a virtual environment while moving your mouse. When tracking targets, I often have to adjust my mouse movements without relying on real-time screen feedback, otherwise I risk missing shots, overshooting, or overtracking. This issue appears consistently across all games and desktops.
My current system specifications are:
RTX 3060ti
i7 10700
32GB 3600 RAM
2TB SSD Kingston
B560M Gaming HD
PSU MAG850GL
My previous setup (which was much better):
GTX 1060ti 6GB
i5 7400
16GB RAM
500GB SSD + 1TB HD
ga-h270m-gaming 3
PSU Corsair cx450
Power settings are off. I've experimented with various C-States, power plans, Windows reinstalls, XMP configurations, BCDedit commands, driver reinstalls (with and without DDU), HPET toggles, resizable bar, GSync, V-Sync, Game mode, Game bar, and disabling all overlays. I've also tried swapping the PSU, changing the motherboard, RAM, SSD, GPU, case, and even different mice and monitors. Still no lag issues before.
This new PC has been thoroughly tweaked—different USB ports, various mouse models, monitors at 75Hz and 165Hz, mousepads, etc.—but nothing resolved the problem. I've also explored changing the CPU, but nothing worked.
Regarding power supply, my home lacks proper grounding, and testing on a friend's setup didn't help. I haven't tried another CPU yet. This is quite unusual, especially since we're in 2024. Please, help me with this issue!
As for electricity, my house doesn't have good grounding either. The test on my friend's place yielded the same result. At this stage, I haven't tested it in a properly grounded environment or tried another CPU.
It might be a service or app that launches with Windows on boot to the desktop, leading to the issue. You could attempt the steps below to check if the lag persists...
Use 'msconfig' in the search bar
Select "Selective Startup"
Disable "Load Startup Items"
Click "Apply" then "OK"
Restart the computer and test again.
My Benq rl2240he runs at 60hz while the Acer RG241y operates at 165hz. Using only one monitor hasn't affected performance, and it functioned perfectly on my previous system.
Thank you, I attempted it but didn't achieve any results. I should note that I've reinstalled windows several times in an effort to address this issue.
Did you perform a Windows update or a full reset and installation?
Many users claim to have reinstalled Windows but fail to carry out a complete wipe and installation.
It’s just a refresh that keeps old drivers and registry settings intact.
I performed a full reset each time, preparing the drive by formatting it prior to installing Windows.
