Hey everyone, the machine and motherboard are beginning to fail. Here’s what I have:

I’m considering swapping the motherboard but unsure what to buy to keep working with the existing components. Should I go for something new or stick with what I have?
Budget is around 300 GBP, based in the UK.

Swapping the motherboard alone doesn't improve performance significantly. Enhanced results need broader changes.
I own a Dell Studio XPS 435mt that I purchased brand new in 2009. I haven’t used it since 2020. My last upgrade was a 1tb SSD. Although it has an i7 processor, it’s a first-gen 920 and I’m wondering who would be interested. Keeping an old machine means dealing with obsolescence. It features an EVGA 970sc, and Nvidia is set to discontinue drivers soon.
Motherboard, RAM, and CPU are likely to need replacement soon. The Corsair TX was a decent power supply when it was new, but after ten years it could be worth considering for swapping out. Your case and storage devices might still be useful if you have at least one SSD. New CPUs often come with compatible coolers, though some don’t. You’re not in a strong position to improve performance much with current components unless you’re willing to spend more. An SSD would definitely help, but it’s unlikely to make a big difference with older hardware.
Not necessarily aiming for any performance boost. It's acceptable as long as it's not gaming anymore, so my parents are okay with it being passed down.
If your Windows version is OEM, it remains linked to the original motherboard. A precise make/model upgrade would eliminate the need for a new license. Based on your budget, you might consider purchasing a significantly faster I3-12100 processor, a new motherboard, and 16GB of RAM.
Ryzen 3200G/5600G remains a viable option for everyday computing systems.
