Hi everyone,
This is my attempt at building a setup specifically for ultra-wide gaming. Please tell me where I made mistakes and where I should improve.
Hardware: GIGABYTE X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 AM5
Processor: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Memory: Kingston Fury Beast RGB 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT/s DDR5 CL30
Graphics: Gigabyte RTX 3080 Waterforce
Storage: 4TB NVME drive
Cooling system: Custom loop with:
- 5/8 PETG tubing, using copper elbows and CyA glue instead of compression fittings
- Apogee Drive II CPU waterblock and pump
- NexXxoS 200mm x 200mm x 85mm MONSTA full copper radiator
- Noctua NF-A20 PWM fan
- Manual PWM controller for Apogee Drive II
Power supply: Corsair SF1000
Display: Samsung 49" Odyssey OLED (G93SC) Series Curved Gaming Monitor, QD-OLED, 240Hz, 0.03ms
Case: Keyboard tray removable
Whew! I hope this isn’t a situation where you have to joke about making God laugh—just sharing my plans.
Thanks,
Larry

RAM: Kingston Fury Beast RGB 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT/s DDR5 CL30
Consider a slightly quicker RAM option. Possibly moving to DDR5-6400MHz or DDR5-6400MT/s. I assisted a friend in setting up a build using a 7800X3D, paired with a Dominator Titanium Edition DDR5-6600MHz. This unit has been running smoothly since March 2024.
Adding another radiator could provide extra cooling capacity. A single 200mm Monsta radiator is similar to a 360mm 27mm model, and you might want a push/pull fan arrangement, though the fan's static pressure seems problematic.

Ultrawide gaming refers to using large monitors with wider aspect ratios. The specific models and sizes are important considerations. Regarding games, not every title supports this feature, so it's wise to check for clear definitions from manufacturers before investing.

Well, actually not so much: the fin volume of a 360mm x 120mm x 27mm radiator is 116640 cubic mm's. A 200mm x 200mm x 85mm unit has a fin volume of 3400000 cubic mm's, which is almost three times larger, indicating plenty of cooling space. In reality, a Monsta radiator should manage around 1600 watts, far exceeding the capacity of a 1000 watt PSU.

Hi everyone,
I’ve made a significant adjustment to my system setup:
For a total investment of $200, I replaced my RTX 3080 Waterforce with an RTX 3090ti equipped with an EK waterblock. (And yes, it was a local purchase, so I could see it in action!) I’m hoping this will allow me to handle ultrawide 4k resolution.
What do you think?

A 3090 Ti should perform roughly half as well at 4k compared to a 5090. A 5070 ti is approximately 17% quicker than a 3090 ti.
5120 x 1440 offers about 88.89% of the pixels from 4k, which means you might see slightly improved results in game benchmarks. I’d say the 3090 Ti is the weakest component, though it still works fine for any standard. Don’t expect over 100 fps at that resolution in recent games with full settings. I also recommend a 64gb RAM setup, particularly if you plan to use this PC for more than three years. With 32gb of RAM, you can handle demanding games while running Chrome and Discord. Some newer titles require significant system memory.
