Is the Ryzen 7 7700X overheating?
My CPU runs at about 65-67C while idle and can spike up to 85-90C while gaming. I understand that it is under the maximum temperature for the CPU but should it actually be running this hot. I've heard that this might be normal but wanted to make sure. Is this normal?
System specs:
Ryzen 7 7700x
Peerless assasin 120 se

Hey there,
Yes, it's running warm. Idle temps should be in the 40-45c range, maybe slightly higher or lower depending on the cooler.
Top line temps are fine, but for a heavy load. Gaming I would think about the 70-80c mark, but again higher or lower depending on which exact game.
Maybe check the thermal paste application and reseat cooler.
Ensure the thermal paste is applied uniformly over the IHS and cooler contact plate. Verify the mounting screws on the cooler are tightened correctly.
I noticed the temperature wasn't measured properly before. Now it reads 45C when idle and 35C in BIOS. I think this is within a normal range. For the spikes during games, I need to recheck them because they weren't measured while playing but right after exiting. I'll likely measure again soon. Thanks for your response.
