I notice the RMx1KW PSU is experiencing OCP problems. I own a Seasonic prime titanium 850w PSU from 2019 that works fine with a 5800X3D and a 5090. It seems something different is happening. Typically, when a PSU trips, the PC shuts down rather than freezing and forcing a hard shutdown. I think it would be better to check drivers, firmware, or non-PSU hardware issues.
Does the GPU clock speed exceed specifications when under stress testing, similar to performance during a game?
It could simply be due to a significant voltage drop when under heavy load.
I take extra care to prevent this issue.
Three separate cables are connected from my RM850x to a 3080Ti.
If there is space for additional PCIe cables, that would be another consideration.
It might also depend on the placement of OCP limits, as long as the overall unit stays within limits—even with the full system plus a 5090 power spike reaching 740W, it should remain under 1k. However, if OCP limits are applied to individual PCIe connectors, those could become problematic.
I believe each PCIe cable from Corsair is rated for 25 amps sustained on each port and cable. I still think there might be something beyond the PSU. A replacement PSU would help verify if the RMx1kw model is working properly. If the Corsair unit appears normal, they can return the faulty PSU. If the RMx unit is the problem, they should return it to Corsair for a replacement that can be sold or used.
Yes, 600W is sufficient, but Igor reported spikes reaching up to 900W according to his measurements. That should fall within the OCP time limit, yet he also detected spikes capable of exceeding it. The main goal of ATX 3.1 was to enable extended time intervals and avoid the problems observed with the 30/40 series cards.
