I own an old Lenovo N500 laptop. It came with 2GB RAM, but I planned to upgrade it to 4GB by adding another 2GB stick. I've installed it, but unfortunately it isn't being recognized by the device. The original RAM module is labeled 40Y8404, and according to the DMS website, its specifications are: 2GB, 667MHz, DDR2-667 PC2-5300, 200p SODIMM, 1.8v. The new stick I want to install has the same model but is marked as DDR2-667MHz PC2-5300 1.8V. Could you offer some guidance?

Verify you have the most recent BIOS update for your laptop. Then explore options for a matching RAM module, ensuring it matches both frequency and timing requirements. According to the specifications found on Lenovo's support page, the laptop supports 2x SO-DIMM slots, so searching for a compatible 2x2GB DDR2-667MHz dual channel RAM kit on platforms like Ebay could be effective.

Thank you, I've checked the link you shared and found it likely explains why: "Only 64-bit operating systems can handle more than 3GB of RAM."

Yes, it appears to work correctly. It seems a 64-bit operating system must be installed.

I've already tried, but I need to install a 64-bit version of Windows 10.

With both sticks installed, the bios displays the relevant information.

Each stick of ram fits into the orig slot.
Test each stick using only the new slot.
